Renowned Mexican flute player Horacio Franco in San Miguel de Allende
By Delia López
Horacio Franco, one of the best-known Mexican classical musicians in the world, will perform his first recital in San Miguel de Allende. The concert will raise funds for Jóvenes Adelante, a nonprofit organization that promotes higher education among low-income youth in the city and surrounding rural communities.

The performance takes place on Saturday, February 9 at 5:30pm at the Centro Cultural Santa Maria Del Obraje, a beautiful 17th century building much appreciated for its warm acoustics. Franco will play an eclectic repertoire of music from different eras and countries: from Bach to contemporary composers, and from old Europe to traditional Mexico.
“It’s quite natural that Jóvenes Adelante and Horacio Franco are joining forces to raise funds for education,” says Stephanie Hough Lanier, president of the nonprofit organization supporting San Miguel’s youth.
Coming from a humble background, Franco has his own success story to tell. While in San Miguel, he will visit local schools to share his message with students that success is based on discipline and perseverance.
His reputation–backed up by sold-out performances and highly acclaimed recordings–is due not only to his impeccable technique and daring performance style, but also to his engaging personality.
Concert tickets 400/300/250/150 pesos will go on sale January 25 and may be purchased at la Conexión, Aldama 3; Hotel Casa Primavera, Salida Real a Querétaro 189-a; La Biblioteca, Insurgentes 25; and the Jóvenes Adelante office, Plaza Primavera, Local 19, Salida a Querétaro 189.
