The title of the show, Not So Still Lifes, refers to a twist on the traditional aspect of the still life. These paintings have an animation not usually associated with the genre… sometimes humorous, sometimes unexpected, and always engaging. Mizwa’s approach to her subject is fresh, direct, and elegantly rendered. The colors and disposition of the objects offer a different perception to the Spanish translation of “Still Life” being, naturaleza muerta…nature dead. With the utmost respect to the classical manner of painting, bodegones, which are paintings of objects of the kitchen, Mizwa invents schemes of lively compositions and energetic color.
The choice of exhibiting in Media Naranja came naturally. It is a favorite restaurant, convivial and pleasant. Its cheerful ambiance allows the patron to sit and contemplate the artwork on the walls with relaxation, quite different than the usual gallery scenario.
Media Naranja Cafe is located on the corner of Hidalgo and Calzada de la Luz, above the Farmacia San Gabriel. It is open for breakfast and lunch between 8am-4:30pm, Monday through Saturday.
