A toy for each child
By John Doherty, Sharon and friends
This Christmas the Three Kings, along with many helpers, travelled far and wide to seven rural communities in our area. They came not on camels, not on burros, but in a convoy of SUVs. They visited with over 1,100 joyful schoolchildren and many, many babies in mothers’arms.
They brought with them games, books, dolls, things that squeak, cuddly bears, stuffed animals and lots and lots of soccer balls. This year we added many scarves and warm hats, courtesy of the San Miguel Sunday Hookers, to the gifts that were given. There were many smiling faces and contented and happy children, many of whom were likely receiving their only toy for the holiday.
The residents of our community truly did a good thing for the children by making donations of toys and gifts and we wish to take this opportunity to thank them. Thanks also to the merchants and business owners who helped gather toys in the toy bins; Cafe Muro, Buen Dia Cafe, Ventanas and Malanquin Golf Courses, Solutions, La Biblioteca, Keith’s Longhorn, Cafe Rama, La Conexion, Hank’s, OKO Restaurant, Burrimania, El Caracol Condominiums and Monex.
A special thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped gather and wrap the toys, and especially the two great groups of people who helped the Three Kings distribute the toys in the communities.
We are truly blessed to live in a community of such caring people and are grateful to each and everyone that supported this endeavor. Health and happiness to all in 2013.
