New Year’s Eve masquerade party
By Jade Arroyo
One of the most celebrated nights of the year is New Year’s Eve. Many parties took place in town at bars, hotels and private homes in addition to the big fiesta in the Jardín with live music and fireworks. Often, partygoers hop from one to another. One of these parties was a costume bash organized by Hotel Matilda. The party took place in a large garden located on calle Pila Seca, a space that, starting this year, will be available for parties and other events such as weddings.
The only dress code to follow was to show up wearing a mask. Some people just wore a simple mask with glitter picked up along the way, still looking fabulous, and others really showed their creativity with Venetian-style creations paired with big wigs and a lot of bling. There was a cash bar, and DJ Papacheko spun the disks. Later in the evening, a stand for tacos al pastor opened up to provide a bit of sustenance.
On the dance floor young and old, locals and tourists, danced the night away, celebrating the coming of the new year and a fresh start.
