Having fun in San Miguel
By Jade Arroyo
Try these options to enjoy a very special day in San Miguel, a city with much to offer.
Vía Orgánica, Margarito Ledesma 2, 121-0540
If you enjoy a delicious and healthy meal, and you also have an eco-friendly attitude, this is a perfect place. Located slightly outside the center of town, Vía Orgánica is a business that promotes healthy food, fair trade and the protection of the planet. It offers both international and Mexican dishes (all the ingredients direct from the farm), also daily specials, organic coffee and beer.
Tianguis del Martes/Tuesday Market
This open air market is located about a mile and a half from the center of town — you can get a 35-peso taxi ride there. Here you can really get a taste of Mexico and also have a great shopping experience. You can find almost anything among the colorful tents — fruit and vegetables, herbal remedies, antiques and clothing. Also, a large variety of tasty street food: fish and chips, tacos, gorditas, fresh fruit juices and pizza. Definitely a fun experience.
Museo Casa de Ignacio Allende, Cuna de Allende esq Umarán
The birthplace of the most celebrated hero of the town, it is today a historical museum. The building dates from the 16th century and has interesting architectural details. On both the first and second floor there are permanent exhibits about the history of the city and the region, the life of those times, reproductions of typical rooms from Allende’s day, information about the beginnings of the city and a little sacred art. There is also a gift shop.
Limerick Pub, Umarán 24
To get to really know San Miguel nightlife, this place is a must visit. The style of the place is obviously Irish; you can chill with friends playing pool or darts or dance to a live rock band.
Mixta, Pila Seca 3, 142-7343
A unique shop in San Miguel de Allende, an eclectic mix of jewelry, clothing, furniture, art, and more. Mixta is a colorful place where you will find the perfect gift for yourself or someone special.
