Parque Juárez, Jardín Principal and other locations
Arte en el Parque is a four-day initiative that aims to build community, establishes connection, and fosters cultural integration through participatory art. Arte en el Parque is geared toward the San Miguel youth community and seeks to promote creativity and self-expression through art and celebration. A diverse group of local and international artists will transform Parque Juárez into a playground of large-scale installations. Many of these projects will require the participation of members of the community to create its elements. Artists are encouraged to embrace the themes of Día de Muertos and explore the cycle of death and rebirth in their work. In addition to physical installations, Arte en el Parque will feature local and international musicians, aerial performances, and various workshops for all ages.
With its inaugural performance on Thursday, November 1st. evening, the Earth Harp will transform the centro into the world’s largest stringed instrument, with strings up to 1,000 feet. The harp utilizes pre-existing architecture to transform the surroundings into a musical experience. During La Calaca, nightly performances of the Earth Harp at sunset will fill the streets of San Miguel with harmony and vibration.
TEDxSanMigueldeAllende will take place during La Calaca Festival on Saturday, November 3rd. Visit tedxsanmigueldeallende.com for more information!
La Calaca Festival encourages local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and creative individuals to contribute their own events to the La Calaca experience. These independently-organized events will occur throughout the city during the festival and exemplify the unique and diverse character of the San Miguel community.
