The chefs, Enrique Olvera of Restaurante Pujol, Mikel Alonso of Biko Restaurante, and Sonia Arias of Jaso Restaurant are donating their formidable talents to provide a memorable evening of stellar gourmet fare. The chefs will introduce their courses with a brief presentation about the recipes involved. Olvera’s Pujol and Alonso’s Biko were recently ranked 36 and 38, respectively, in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2012. Organized by Restaurant Magazine, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is an annual snapshot of the opinions and experiences of over 800 international restaurant industry experts.
Spirit of Hope is limited to 200 guests. In addition to the three-course meal, wine, light beverages and coffee-tea service, the ticket covers a pre-dinner champagne and hors d’oeuvre hour, dancing to the music of Mannix, all-evening transportation to and from the event, and a program of “Neat Temptations for a Cause” that includes work by faculty and students of the Corcoran College of Art + Design of the prestigious Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. A cash bar will also be available.
“We are delighted that Mexico’s star chefs, Enrique Olvera, Mikel Alonso and Sonia Arias are devoting their culinary talents toward helping make Casita Linda’s first gala elegant, mouth watering and fabulously fun,” said Saul Whynman, president of Casita Linda. “It is equally gratifying to note that American Airlines, ArtPrint Express, BajioGO, Casa Don Ramón, Don
Pedro Grupo Ferreterro, Hotel Bahía de la Luna of Oaxaca, Los Senderos, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende and the renowned Corcoran College of Art and Design also are joining with us in marking this milestone. Their goodwill and kindness will enable Casita Linda to move forward and continue its mission of building homes that offer dignified, safe and empowering environments to provide a foundation of hope for families living in extreme poverty in the San Miguel area,” he added.
Casita Linda builds homes for families who have had little comfort or security living in small structures made from wood scraps, pieces of metal, stones, plastic and other cast-off materials that offer little protection from the elements. Children often have lived their entire lives without beds or lighting under which they could do their homework. Casita Linda homes have solid roofs and sturdy walls. Coupled with improved sanitation, they provide warm, dry and healthier living conditions for families, whose increased pride and self esteem are very clear as they choose the colors to paint their new homes, fill their new surroundings with flowers and celebrate their hope for better futures.
