Pets of the Month
By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero
For September, we are featuring Fiona and Rita as the dog Pets of the Month. A little over a year old, Fiona is a beautiful, friendly, small/medium Blue Heeler mix that loves to play and explore. She is smart, calm, easy-going, and gets along well with other dogs. Her Heeler genes ensure loyalty and devotion to “her” people! She would enjoy being either a family pet or a companion to a single person. We are sure she would quickly become a cherished member of the family.
Now 1-1/2 years old, Rita has been at the SPA since she was 2-1/2 months old. She is affectionate, eager for attention, and learns quickly. Small/medium sized, she is black and tan with lovely expressive eyes. She is a bit timid when walking outside due to cars whizzing by and prefers to walk with another dog, but she loves to play and cuddle. Rita has been at the SPA almost her entire life, and we very much want her to finally have a home where she will receive the love she deserves.
Diego and Dior are the cat Pets of the Month. These two littermates, rescued from the street, are not quite out of kittenhood, having just celebrated their five-month birthdays. Like many siblings, this brother and sister are totally different in looks and personality. Diego, with his handsome charcoal gray and white coat, thinks everything in the world is meant for his amusement. He plays enthusiastically with shoelaces; pant hems, lampshades, sunglasses, keys, earrings (ouch) and even actual cat toys when there is nothing else at his disposal. Dior, a lovely Siamese lookalike, is disdainful of her brother’s foolish ways. She prefers her aura of sophistication and elegance, choosing not to reward you with mere silly antics, but rather by snuggling on your lap, purring and batting her beautiful blue eyes at you.
Adopt any of these Pets of the Month during September and receive a free adoption kit. For dogs, the adoption kit is a toy, food, a collar, and a leash. For cats, the kit is a starter kit of a litter pan with litter, a scoop, and food.
Meet them and their friends at the SPA, Monday-Saturday, 11am-2pm, Los Pinos 7, phone 152-6124. See http://www.spasanmiguel.org/ADOPT.html for biographies, pictures, and videos of all our cats and dogs (click on Facebook Doggie Album link). Volunteer! We’d love (and need) your help!
