Municipal DIF awarded 40 Casas DIFferentes
By Antonio De Jesús Aguado
On Friday, August 17, Mayor Luz María Núñez Flores and president of the local DIF (Integral Family Development) office Javier Zavala signed an agreement with the state DIF to obtain materials to build 40 more Casas DIFerentes (DIFferent Houses), which will be given to sanmiguelenses most in need from 11 rural communities such as La Campana, Rancho Viejo, Sanmiguelito and Guanajuatito and some neighborhoods in town.
Zavala commented that this year the state DIF awarded materials for only 240 Casas DIFferentes in the whole state (46 municipalities) and due to the correct application of the resources in San Miguel de Allende they were “awarded” 40 houses, almost 20 percent of the total allotment.
The local authorities commented that every day they receive petitions from sanmiguelenses seeking a house and for that reason they will try to get more houses until the last day of this administration. Through this program, those benefited receive all the material for construction from DIF and they build the houses themselves. By the end of the 2009–2012 administration materials for 460 Casas DIFferentes will have been delivered in 60 rural communities and neighborhoods in San Miguel.
