Find your Ginger – add spice to your life
By Teresa León
I live alone. In Mexico. Everyone said get a dog. I enlisted the help of Tomas, the dog whisperer of San Miguel who works with the SPA. When I arrived to look at all the available SPA dogs, there was a lovely assortment of cute puppies jumping up and down obviously wanting love and affection. Little tails wagging. Oh, how adorable, I thought, but I wanted to see everyone. I checked out each cage, one after the other; dogs of every shape and size. Just when we were close to the end of a very long line, there was Ginger. Beautiful eyeliner, one ear up and one ear down. And she was singing to me!
Ginger had been at the SPA for two long years waiting and hoping for a home. I knew right away that she was the one!
A little history of her was on the cage and included the fact that she was very shy. However, in exchange for some little bits of hotdog, she could sit, she could lie down, and she could do the swim. She could also steal my heart, which she did.
I took her out for a nice walk in the area. She was skittish and afraid when a car went by, but kept looking up at me with those beautiful eyes. I spoke with the vet. What kind of dog is Ginger? Mexican. I came back the next day and took her home.
After weeks of getting used to each other and now a year later, I am so very proud to say that I think she loves her life. She follows me around the house everywhere I go. Ginger dances and sings and goes completely crazy until I come to her with the leash and take her out the door to meet her friends. Ginger is my best friend. And I am hers.
