Casita Linda Music Fest 2012 Draws Large Audience
By Mary Murrell
On March 23rd over 250 music lovers attended the inaugural concert of the Casita Linda Music Fest held at Ranchito Cascabel near Atotonilco. The Music Fest featured major label recording artist, Mike Sanders, who has played with the likes of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Mike returned to San Miguel after rave reviews from his sold out concerts here in 2008.
Mike’s folk roots run deep and he has a long successful history in the music industry. His enthusiasm and amazing musical skills had the audience on their feet for a standing ovation at the end of his performance. When asked about his donation of his time to talents, he said he especially enjoys coming to San Miguel where he can sing and help raise money to build more Casita Linda homes.
Joining Mike was an all star lineup of local talent including: Peter Ross, Tom Driscoll, Billie Rose, John Nunnally, and William Henderson. These musicians satisfied everyone’s taste in music from folk to blues to world music and made for a full afternoon of old favorites and new compositions.
The event’s location, Ranchito Casacabel, provided a beautiful and creative environment for the concert with a tented seating area in a recently constructed amphitheater. Guests were free to enjoy the many buildings and gardens at the ranch and also tour a private folk art museum owned by Jennifer and Bob Hass which is next door. Good old home cooking from Longhorn Steakhouse meant everyone who wanted had a delicious comida while enjoying the music.
Casita Linda thanks everyone who made the concert such a success. We greatly appreciate all the talented musicians, the 250 people who attended, Keith Thompson who provided food and drink, and Tim Sullivan for providing the amazing architectural experience of his beautiful ranch. We are especially grateful to Michael Hager who created the event, designed the musical program and who continues to work hard for the families of Casita Linda.
