The House & Garden Tour

Vía Orgánica Demonstration and Learning Garden The Vía Orgánica Demonstration and Learning Garden is in full swing for summer!

Come explore this unique collaboration between the municipality’s Ecology Department and the non-profit organization, Vía Orgánica. This initiative transformed an underutilized part of the municipality’s nursery into a blossoming, booming edible garden. Last year, the garden received over 1,000 visitors- approximately half of which were children from the local community. Come explore over a hundred different varieties of garden plants, herbs and edible plants. See how water-saving techniques like buried pots can create an oasis in this semi-arid region. The transformation of a barren plot into a melody of color will inspire you to create your own vegetable garden. After the tour, troupe down to the Vía Orgánica store in Colonia Guadalupe to see the urban terrace garden, have a bite to eat and a cool drink and wrap up a great Sunday.

El Charco del Ingenio

El Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden extends over some 167 acres of nature reserve just a few minutes from the historical city of San Miguel de Allende. El Charco del Ingenio is an extraordinary natural monument in a unique scenic area of great biodiversity. The name comes from a spring-fed pool nestled in an impressive canyon, which popular legend has interwoven with spirits and myths dating from the Spanish conquest. Above, the Las Colonias reservoir receives water flowing down from the nearby mountains, which forms permanent wetlands where birds and other wildlife abound. In addition to its ecological and scenic value, the Charco del Ingenio also has a notable historical value.
