The alternative San Miguel de Allende

By Antonio De Jesús Aguado

A Perfect Day

San Miguel has a beautiful historic center, cobblestoned streets, old colonial houses and public spaces to visit, although not everything is about the historic center. Just a few kilometers away from the city there are natural and artificial spaces that can offer a great and different experience.

Presa Allende. Carretera a Guanajuato

Is one of the biggest dams in the center of Mexico, and it offers marvelous landscapes, even a sunken chapel during the rainy season. From up above it is such a spectacle to watch the water falling from the dam sluice gate to a spectacular natural canyon covered with wild flora and birds.

Tunnel Camino a comunidad de la Huerta

Was constructed during the Porfiriato in the 19th century, and measures close to 500 meters. Formerly it was a route for the train, currently it is a passage leading to La Huerta community. No doubt it will be a great experience to cross this path of darkness

Árbol Sabino, Comunidad de la Huerta

Is a giant tree dating (according to the inhabitants) from the 16th century; the perimeter of its trunk is close to 10 meters in diameter and it has huge roots where visitors can even take a nap Comunidad de la Huerta Is a small rural community in the outskirts of San Miguel; part of its economy is supported by the sales of reed baskets woven by the

natives in small family workshops.
