A Tibute to La Biblioteca Volunteers
The Biblioteca was started by a Canadian volunteer, Helen Wale, in 1954, when she perceived that the Mexican children living around her needed books to improve literacy and enjoyment of reading. Since that time many hundreds of volunteers have helped the Biblioteca to provide educational classes, scholarships and books, raise funds, and organize and build the wonderful library we have today. The dedication of these many volunteer through the years has enabled the Biblioteca to thrive and grow into the second largest bilingual library in Mexico with 60,000 books in English and Spanish.
In the Biblioteca, volunteers perform numerous tasks working with library services, Atención, House & Garden Tours, Bodega Sorpresas, Tienda, education classes, on committees and the Board of Directors, fundraising and marketing. Many of the services skilled volunteers perform at the Biblioteca would be very expensive if we had to hire staff or expertise to provide them.
If you would like to assist the Biblioteca by becoming a volunteer please contact Sandra Suaste, General Manager at the Biblioteca or firstname.lastname@example.org. There are many ways in which you can contribute. We are presently looking for volunteer ambassadors to liaise with the public and also volunteers for the Theatre Santa Ana to assist during films and performances. If you have a special skill or expertise that you think would benefit the Biblioteca come and discuss your ideas with us.
The Biblioteca and the community of San Miguel is very grateful for all the time, effort and expertise our Biblioteca volunteers give so willingly with warmth and enthusiasm. We thank them for their dedication, generosity and commitment to the Biblioteca over the past 50 years and we sincerely hope that their time as volunteers has been an interesting and rewarding experience for them.
