San Miguel Sparkle, art gems in two and three dimensions!

By Misty Hasket

Bordello Galería will be hosting an exhibition featuring the petite paintings of Sara Linda Poly and the assemblages of Elizabeth Ramírez. The exhibition will continue for two weeks and showings will be by appointment or chance.

Art: Opening of San Miguel Sparkle. Sat, Feb 25, 6-8pm. Bordello Galería, Órganos 19, between Hernández Macías & Volanteros

Sara Linda Poly, an award winning artist from the Washington, DC, area, will delight the viewer with petite impressionistic renderings of both night and daytime street scenes of our wonderful town. Presented in a unique and whimsical fashion, her use of poetry around her images, vibrant and lively colors and her use of light capture the sparkle of San Miguel. Her work brings a joy that is contagious…take a piece of San Miguel sparkle home with you!

Elizabeth Ramirez’ assemblages of reflected light bring her own sparkle to San Miguel. Elizabeth is a self-taught artist who started creating her masks while living in the jungle near Palenque, Chiapas. She’s an enthusiastic explorer of materials and techniques to create two and three-dimensional  pieces that combine elements of the real and the fantastic. Elizabeth’s masks bring a scintillating sparkle to this show as the small mirrors create moving lights and colors. Her work both transmits and reflects light to help her viewers find a balance between the differences and similarities of the life we share.

The Bordello Galería is so named because it is located in the main sala of Madam Turca’s “Casa de la Noche,” where notorious “ladies of the evening” once made their living. Barbara Poole, owner of the guesthouse and a painter herself, hopes to continue using her front room gallery space to promote lesser-known Mexican artists as well as emerging sanmiguelenses.

Poly’s and Ramirez’s works already decorate the private rooms at Casa de la Noche. The recently renovated 13-room B and B is filled with original art and is a cozy respite for tourists and travelers.
