Good Friday in Colonia San Luis Rey

“Good Friday in Colonia San Luis Rey, ” an installation of photographs by former Chicago Tribune photographer James F. Quinn, will be part of a group show that opens on Friday, February 24, in the Pergola Gallery in the Instituto Allende. The photos, which document the reenactment of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ as portrayed by residents of San Luis Rey and Montes de Loreto in San Miguel, will be displayed along with work by painters Harriet Moore Ballard, Peter Leventhal, Carole Watanabe, and Ezshwan Winding. The show will open with a reception from 6 to 9pm that same day and run through Thursday, April 5.

As a Chicago Tribune studio photographer, Quinn specialized in portraiture, fashion, product and food photography. Since his retirement, he and his wife, Karen, have divided their time between San Miguel de Allende and their home in the Chicago suburbs. He has continued to photograph in Mexico. Examples of his work have been published in Atención San Miguel and elsewhere.
