Oscar Night party gives literacy to Ojalá Niños!
By Elsmarie Norby
Come to the Bordello Gallery, walk the red carpet to enjoy a fabulous Oscar night party – and know you are helping many children in the rural community of San Miguel Viejo to learn to read well, write creatively, and enjoy the mastery of their language.
Red carpet Oscar Night: A benefit for Ojalá Niños. Sun, Feb 26, 5:30pm. Casa de la Noche, Bordello Gallery, Órganos 19. 150 pesos
The non-profit Ojalá Niños offers free weekly classes year-round in art, music, and theater.
Now we are developing a curriculum for ages 3-16 in four levels. Most children in rural areas have little or no access to books, are not read to when very young, and are not able to develop good reading and writing skills, even in school. We believe that this opportunity for Spanish literacy will bring much pride and self-confidence to the children of Ojalá.
Whatever their goals may be, their ability to read and write well will be a great gift.
With your donation of a mere 150 pesos to walk the red carpet, raffle tickets at the door for 50 pesos each, or 3 for 100 pesos, you will enjoy the Oscars, delight in the company of friends, taste the delicious botanas provided by several of San Miguel’s best chefs, sip good wines – and give the gift of literacy to over 100 children who are a part of your community.
Tickets are limited and will be available at the Saturday Organic Market; or online at:
