“Make Love, Not War…Again,” is Global Justice fundraiser theme

The Center for Global Justice will hold its annual Silent Auction fundraiser party in the patio at the Center office.
Silent Auction To benefit The Center for Global Justice. Sat, Feb 25, 6-9pm. The Center for Global Justice, Calzada de la Luz 42
A stay at the beach, a week in a beautiful house in “México Profundo,” with a spectacular view of the Peña de Bernal, dinners for two at various San Miguel restaurants, 1960s memorabilia, and unique works donated by San Miguel artists, are among scores of items for which written bids can be made.
Practiced auctioneer Sandy Brooks will sell big ticket items aloud to the highest bidder. Among these is a gourmet meal for the winner and guests in the bidder’s home— prepared by master-chef Kirsten West.
“As new wars are seriously discussed ’Make Love, Not War…Again’ renews the old anti-Vietnam war slogan,” said Center president Betsy Bowman, “but we’re going to have fun anyway.” Guests will get one free drink and complimentary snacks, a tango display, and dancing, she said. Proceeds go to the Center’s work of “research and learning for a better world.” This includes networking support for local cooperatives and the Saturday organic market, campo trips for visitors, study tours, web publishing, and public lectures and films in both the winter and summer seasons.
Bowman said “I’m still often asked ‘What does the Center do?’” To answer, she said this year’s festivities will make room for “a moment of brief self-introductions by staff, board members and founders on their work on our mission.”
“Think of going dancing during the Vietnam war, even as we protested it,” she said. “This will be the high point of our 2012 winter season.” For further information, email email@example.com or call 415-150-0025 4:30-5:30pm.
