San Miguel welcomes new Canadian Ambassador to Mexico
By Jaci Winters
In March 2011, the Biblioteca invited the Canadian Consul from Mexico City to meet with Canadians visiting or living in San Miguel. The meeting was very successful with close to 300 Canadians attending even though many snowbirds had already returned to Canada. This year we are happy to announce the meeting will be held February 16, 2012 in the Posada San Francisco opposite the Jardin at the corner of Calle San Francisco and Hidalgo at 9.30 – 11.30 a.m.

Led by Sara Hradecky, the new Canadian Ambassador designate to Mexico, a team from the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City will hold an information session providing an overview of several embassy programs, including Consular, Public and Political Affairs. We will also be welcoming a new Consul Devon Zhang.
Sara Hradecky arrived in Mexico November 2011 as Canada’s Ambassador-designate to the United Mexican States and comes with a varied and interesting background. She has held posts in Buenos Aires, Belgrade and Tel Aviv. From 1996 – 2000 she served as Canada’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and from 2006-2009 Ambassador Hradecky was head of Mission at Canada’s Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.
All Canadians are welcome to attend whether you are visiting or live part or full time in San Miguel or other places in Mexico. It is your opportunity to get first hand information regarding the services provided by the Embassy and Consular Office and to get answers to any questions you may have. I hope you will join me and other Canadians in welcoming the new Ambassador and Consul.
The Consul Office wishes to remind and encourage Canadians to register with the Embassy through the on-line registration service at www.voyage2.gc.ca/Registration. This service helps the Embassy contact and assist you in an emergency abroad or inform you of a family emergency at home.
