House and Garden Tour
Casa Villa Feliz
This charming home, built and designed by its owner Cory Gray is located on a quiet street in a Mexican neighborhood. The kitchen was built in the old traditional style with utensils easily on hand. The living room is cozy and bright with skylights and glass doors opening to the lush garden. The finish on the walls throughout is called knock-down with special color effects. Most of the antique furniture and all of the ancient doors were purchased in nearby Dolores Hidalgo. The master bath is light and airy with stencil work hand-drawn by Cory. Entertaining usually takes place in the L-shaped outdoor patio. Cory and her guests enjoy marvelous sunsets from the roof terrace and penthouse, which can be accessed from two separate stone staircases. Note the Murphy bed and loft for sleeping in the penthouse! Downstairs is a separate, fully serviceable apartment with an entrance from the street behind the house.
Casa Tierras Negras
Judy Rodman has long been known and appreciated in San Miguel for the houses she designs and builds. Her impeccably styled home is located in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. Once known as Colonia Tierras Negras, the tree lined street leading up to this home is simply magical.
The Colonial home offers a total of four inviting bedrooms all facing the beautifully planted garden patio, and five baths as well as a host of beautiful spaces for living and indoor/outdoor entertainment. Among the many highlights are authentic Mexican style construction, colorful kitchen designed by Dolores Arevalo, and Judith, owners of the new design showroom “My House in San Miguel,” graceful archways, ceilings with classic wood beams, fireplaces, beautiful arches, stone waterwall, traditional portals and abundant windows for peaceful views to the central patio.
The huge rooftop garden offers unparalleled views of most of San Miguel’s church domes and spires. Judy has always a new project. She built many of the newer homes in this old neighborhood.
This home is so comfortable that you won’t want to leave—-but, as you are leaving, take a few minutes to see the lovely guesthouse.
